The Gardner Museum
Brand & Identity
Parsons School of Design
We were asked to create a visual brand identity for a subject of their choice. I chose the
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. I developed a unique selling proposition for their rebrand and designed a mark and logotype. Then, I used the system I designed to create cohesive brand collateral.
The Gardner combines old and new. It began as the private collection
and courtyard garden of the late Isabella Stewart Gardner (ISG) in her Boston mansion. ISG hoped that the space continue “for the education and enjoyment of the public forever.”
In 2016, Renzo Piano furthered ISG’s vision with a glass addition to the mansion. The New Wing is filled with contemporary art and surrounded by additional gardens. The wing represents The Gardner’s desire to be more diverse, accessible and prominent in the 21st century.
